
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Mobile Plant Fitter, you'll be responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing our fleet of construction plant and equipment across operational sites throughout South West Scotland and Cumbria. Working both independently and as part of a team, you'll carry out planned maintenance, diagnose faults, and respond to breakdowns to ensure our machinery remains safe, reliable, and available for projects.
You'll work on a wide range of equipment including excavators, dumpers, rollers, telehandlers, and associated vehicles, helping to minimise downtime and support efficient site operations. The role requires strong mechanical fault-finding skills, a proactive approach to maintenance, and a commitment to working safely in accordance with company procedures and current Health & Safety legislation.
REQUIREMENTS
Key Responsibilities
Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults on a range of machinery including excavators, dumpers, rollers and telehandlers
Carry out planned preventative maintenance to minimise equipment downtime
Respond to plant breakdowns across operational sites throughout Southwest Scotland and Cumbria
Complete inspections, servicing records and maintenance documentation accurately
Ensure all plant and equipment complies with company standards and statutory safety requirements
Conduct routine safety checks and pre-use inspections on machinery
Liaise with site teams and management to prioritise repairs and maintenance activities
Assist with plant preparation, testing and commissioning before deployment to site
Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment
Manage vehicle stock, tools and consumables required for effective field maintenance
Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase plant reliability and operational efficiency
Essential Skills and Requirements
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems
Experience servicing excavators, dumpers, rollers, telehandlers or similar plant equipment
Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation and safe working practices
Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
IT literate and capable of completing digital maintenance records
Full clean UK driving licence
Willingness to travel across sites throughout Southwest Scotland and Cumbria
Desirable Skills and Requirements
Relevant plant maintenance or mechanical engineering qualification
Experience maintaining construction plant, agricultural machinery, HGVs or heavy equipment
CPCS or NPORS plant-related certification
Welding and fabrication experience
LOLER and PUWER inspection knowledge
Experience working within the construction or civil engineering industry
HGV licence
Manufacturer training or certification (JCB, CAT, Volvo, Komatsu, etc.)
